Thanks for visiting AJ’s Cooking Secrets! I’m Aaron John but I also go by AJ. I’m a 24 year old that has a passion for all things food. Whether it’s cooking, baking or just eating, food has become something that my life revolves around. I look forward to the day when I have my own show on the Food Network. Hey, I can dream can’t I?
Until that dream comes true, let me tell you a little about who I am.
How about some fun facts? I’ve never been out of the country, and no, going to Canada doesn’t count for me. I love my daily doses of reality shows, I’m a perfectionist, I'm such a neat freak that it's almost like an OCD and I was on the swim team in high school.
I grew up in the 206 aka Seattle, where Starbucks is found around every corner, where “
I graduated from the University of Washington-Seattle in June of 2014 with a double degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry and a minor in Diversity. In August of 2015, I will begin Pharmacy School at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon!
Enough about that, let’s talk about food and why I created this blog! Growing up, I was afraid. I was afraid of letting people know about my passion for cooking and my abilities in the kitchen. I was afraid of not knowing if my friends would support me just as much as my family did. Most importantly, I was afraid of being judged and called "Betty Crocker" before people knew my whole story. It was because of this, that I kept my love for cooking and baking a secret.
Why should I be so afraid? Social norms run rampant throughout our society today. When you think of what young boys should do, what do you think of? Sports? Cars? Action figures? Video games? Never once, has cooking and baking been a social norm for young boys. I was a 12 year old in the kitchen and that is why I was so afraid and embarrassed. While my friends would play sports, I would be in the kitchen making cakes, cookies and pastas without them knowing.
I started AJ's Cooking Secrets in 2010, to show people that I wasn't fearful of being judged anymore. I'm out to inspire those to do what you want to do. The only person that can hold you back is yourself so, don't let fear define who you are. When you overcome fear, you can do anything. Even if you don't have supporters around you at the moment, someone, somewhere, will support you and you best believe, I will. Just remember, do what you love and never hold back.
Well, that’s all I have to say for now. Hopefully, you’ve learned a little bit more about me! Keep on stopping by AJ’s Cooking Secrets to see what’s new in my life!
